A New Approach to Treating Autism Spectrum Disorder in Oklahoma

Many treatments exist for autism, but sometimes they don’t work as well as you wish they would. And often, they include medications that can cause serious side effects.

Plus, each child with autism is unique, with their own behavior patterns and ways of communicating. Because each child is different, their brain frequencies will also be different. And that’s what makes MeRT so effective.

MeRT, or Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy, combines sophisticated imaging and diagnostics and tailored TMS, which uses a magnetic field to stimulate and balance brain function. And we customize this treatment for each child.

MeRT is non-pharmaceutical, non-invasive, long-lasting, and painless. In fact, this treatment is so gentle that many children spend their time playing while undergoing their sessions.

Yet, despite how gentle it is, MeRT is highly effective in helping improve communication, mood, learning ability, language skills, self-confidence, and more.

To learn more, please visit our MeRT for Autism page.

WE know we’re doing some serious work inside that little brain, but to these tiny patients, it feels more like playtime. And that makes things not only easier for them but so much less stressful for you!

We Understand Your Child’s Needs

When we treat your child with MeRT, we do so from years of experience working with children with special needs.

Angie Turney, LPN, is our Managing Director and also our neuro technician, administering all treatment for our patients. And according to patients and their families, Angie has a genuine gift of making people feel comfortable, cared for, and like family.

Angie has deep empathy for children with special needs and in difficult circumstances. She was a court-appointed special advocate in Oklahoma for eight years and has also been a foster parent. Needless to say, she loves children and wants to make sure that they know they will be taken care of during their treatment.

Plus, after having seen the incredible results from MeRT, Angie is passionate about providing this breakthrough autism treatment to as many children as possible.

Your child could not be in better hands.

April is Autism Awareness Month!

April 14, 2022 by Anne Hill

Happy World Autism Awareness Month!

At Brain Treatment Partners of Oklahoma, we embrace all individuals on the autism spectrum with compassion and respect.

We consider it an honor to provide specialized healthcare to those in need. And we wanted to celebrate this very special month by sharing a bit more about it—and about what we can do to help anyone with autism have a better quality of life.

What is Autism Awareness Month?

It all began over 50 years ago, when the Autism Society of America held the first National Autism Awareness Month in April 1970.

Since that time, each year during the month of April, organizations and people across the globe celebrate Autism Awareness Month. They do this by holding events to educate their communities and raise public awareness about autism, and through fundraising activities. The goal is to help improve the quality of life of those with autism.

As the Autism Society of America put it: “Each Autism experience is unique, but awareness leads to inclusion and acceptance.” In fact, to increase the focus on inclusion and acceptance, in 2021, the Autism Society changed the name to Autism Acceptance Month.

Autism Facts and Figures

As part of creating more awareness about autism, we wanted to share a few facts and figures provided by the Autism Society:

  • 1 in 44 children is diagnosed with autism.
  • Boys are 4 times more likely than girls to be diagnosed with autism.
  • Anxiety disorders affect up to 40% of individuals with autism.
  • Over 7 million individuals in the United States are on the autism spectrum.
  • Autism affects all socioeconomic and ethnic groups.
  • The diagnosis rate for autism is rising by 10-17% each year.

MeRT Treatment for Autism

Along with raising autism awareness, we also want to raise awareness of treatments to help improve the quality of life for those with ASD.

Dr. Spencer Miller, our Board-certified neurologist, offers MeRT (Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy) to treat those with autism. This state-of-the-art technology is non-pharmaceutical and non-invasive. And by using it, we can help your child reduce symptoms and become higher-functioning so that they can live their best possible life.

MeRT works by delivering gentle magnetic pulses to those specific areas of the brain, which have been determined after a thorough analysis of the EEG. We tailor this treatment for each patient, as no two cases of autism are exactly the same. And since MeRT is drug-free and non-invasive, it’s a more comfortable experience for a patient with autism.

We’re Dedicated to Helping You and Your Child

We have a passion for working with children, especially those with autism. Our Managing Director, Angie Turney, said it best: “I’m so thankful every day to love on autistic kids. They make my job a JOY.”

We know you can see the potential in your child. So can we. And we want to help them unlock that potential. Plus, we want every child to feel at home while receiving MeRT treatment at our clinic. With MeRT, delivered in a safe, caring, comfortable environment like our Brain Treatment Center, your child can achieve results like this:

What one Parent has to say…

“Words can’t describe how thankful we are that we found the Brain Treatment Center of Oklahoma! Shortly after our 4-year-old son’s diagnosis, we learned about the success of MeRT and immediately started trying to find the right center for us.
“From the very beginning, Angie was so great to work with, and went out of her way to ensure we had the best experience possible. We expected treatment to be stressful for our son, but we were so relieved when we saw Angie interact with him and the way he responded.
“The impact of the treatments were immediate from eye contact improvement to him noticing his surroundings, and even improved communication with us… by week 5, he was using a spoon for the first time! If you are considering treatment for your child, we highly recommend the team of Angie and Dr. Miller!”

– ASHLEIGH, parent of a child with autism
